Welcome to your Vierin Family assignment page! Here you’ll find all the details that will help you feel right at home for the weekend, including your Family Pal (your dedicated chaperone), your cabin assignment, the family you’ll be sharing your space with, and your color group.

Each of these selections was thoughtfully arranged in hopes of creating a fun, supportive, and connected experience for your family!

Your Family Pal for Sun Escape 2026 is RAAJ KAPOOR

Making his way back to camp for the third year, Raaj is a lead researcher and medical professional in the porphyria space in addition to being a Shadow Jumpers board member since 2022. When asked what volunteering at Sun Escape means to him Raaj wrote “I’ve spent years studying multiple photosensitive disorders, but I really enjoy connecting with the people who are directly impacted, especially children. Volunteering at camp has let me be a part of their journey, offering support and creating fun, safe experiences for them.”

We encourage our families to reach out to their assigned volunteer via email prior to the start of camp to introduce themselves and get familiar prior to the start of Sun Escape. Your Cabin & Color Grouping Information

At Sun Escape, each family is assigned a color group to help guide the flow of the weekend. While many activities are enjoyed together, your color determines the schedule your family will follow for certain program areas. Your cabin will match your assigned color, making it easy to stay connected with your group throughout the weekend.

You will be staying in our Bristol Cabin with the Waldrop Family

Locals to the North Carolina area, the Waldrops have been the quiet unsung heroes of Sun Escape in the past. They helped us acquire the portal lightning that we used last year on the lawn at night. Their son Jake, who lives with Solar Urticaria, is a textbook example on how to live your life to the fullest despite your photosensitivity. “We would love the chance to connect again with other families who have similar restrictions and understanding of how trying and inspiring these conditions can be,” Jake’s mom wrote to us in anticipation of their 3rd Sun Escape.

As a reminder, each family will have their own private side of the cabin which includes a bedroom and bathroom. Both families will share a common area.
