WHERE You’ll BE Staying , whose your family pal and more!
Welcome to your Holguin Family assignment page! Here you’ll find all the details that will help you feel right at home for the weekend, including your Family Pal (your dedicated chaperone), your cabin assignment, the family you’ll be sharing your space with, and your color group.
Each of these selections was thoughtfully arranged in hopes of creating a fun, supportive, and connected experience for your family!
Your Family Pal for Sun Escape 2026 is BRELYN HONIKER
Brelyn is the daughter of EPP’er Ginger Gonsalves, who is a Shadow Jumpers board member and also volunteering this year at Sun Escape. When asked what volunteering at Sun Escape for a 2nd year would mean to her, Brelyn wrote “I’ve been looking forward to this weekend since when we finished last year. I am ready to help create a great experience for a family.” Brelyn also has a career background in assisting with children who have similar disabilities and hardships like Celi’s.
Contacting Brelyn
We encourage our families to reach out to their assigned volunteer via email prior to the start of camp to introduce themselves and get familiar prior to the start of Sun Escape. Brelyn’s email is below. We have also shared with Brelyn your family’s primary email address on file should she wish to also introduce herself or get in contact with you for anything Sun Escape related (ex: checking in with you about your expected arrival time)
Your Cabin & Color Grouping Information
At Sun Escape, each family is assigned a color group to help guide the flow of the weekend. While many activities are enjoyed together, your color determines the schedule your family will follow for certain program areas. Your cabin will match your assigned color, making it easy to stay connected with your group throughout the weekend.
Your assigned color group is BLUE
The Families in Your Blue Group Will Be
The May Family - XP (Washington)
The L Murphy Family - XP (New Mexico)
The Little Family - XP (Virginia)
The Konefal Family - XP (New York)
The Olson Family - XP (Washington)
The Lock Family - EPP (Canada)
The Sandoval Family - HCP (Texas)
The Holguin Family - HCP (New Mexico)
You will be staying in our Talladega Cabin with the Sandoval Family
The family of 6 from Texas (which includes their service dog Raven) rallies around their HCP daughter Julianna. As Julianna wrote to Sun Escape last year -
“Hey everyone, I’m Julie! 🌟👧🏽 After years of being misdiagnosed with febrile seizures, fever of unknown origin, epilepsy, mental illness, anxiety, and even being accused of making up my symptoms, we finally have answers. In March 2024, while traveling, I had 14 seizures and had to be placed in a medically induced coma and intubated. That’s when my doctors agreed to run full genetic testing 🧬, and I was diagnosed with a rare disease called Hereditary Coproporphyria, along with other conditions like Angidrosis which makes me sensitive to sun and heat , severe anxiety and depression as well. My doctors call me a unicorn 🦄 because I’m one in a billion, especially as a pediatric case (the porphyria experts think I’m only child under 12 with discounter case of HCP). I’ve been sick since I was one, and in the past 12 months,
I’ve been hospitalized almost every month. It’s been a tough journey, filled with hospital stays, anxiety, and uncertainty, but my family has been my rock: my sister is my best friend, my mom is a fierce advocate, and my dad anchors us with faith. We’re surrounded by love from friends, church, and our community, which helps us get through the hard days. I’m so grateful for my medical team—hematology, genetics, neuro, GI, and more—who care for me every step of the way. I’m also thankful for Shadow Jumpers & the UPA, who has been advocating on my behalf and bringing awareness to my condition. And to everyone who’s been praying for me and supporting us, thank you! Your prayers, messages, and support mean the world to us. God continues to work miracles in my life, even in the hardest moments. Please keep praying for strength, answers, and healing as we navigate this journey together. 💕”
As a reminder, each family will have their own private side of the cabin which includes a bedroom and bathroom. Both families will share a common area. Should your family wish to connect with the Sandoval Family prior to Sun Escape, you can reach out to the family via their email address below. They have your email as well. While encouraged, connecting is not required.
