WHERE You’ll BE Staying , whose your family pal and more!
Welcome to your Delorme Family assignment page! Here you’ll find all the details that will help you feel right at home for the weekend, including your Family Pal (your dedicated chaperone), your cabin assignment, the family you’ll be sharing your space with, and your color group.
Each of these selections was thoughtfully arranged in hopes of creating a fun, supportive, and connected experience for your family!
Your Family Pal for Sun Escape 2026 is LESLIE SCHOPMEYER
Leslie is 22 years old, lives in Colorado and has Variegate Porphyria.
“Over this past year since my VP diagnosis, I have come to terms with my photosensitivity, realizing it is never going away, and I can either live a life of negativity or I can be positive; I choose positivity,” she said “I want to help others realize photosensitivity does not have to define them, and although it is undeniably an obstacle, for some more than others, life continues. I did not express symptoms until adolescence, so I can only imagine how photosensitivity would be for a child. It is important for me to volunteer at Sun Escape Weekend to help bring a sense of normalcy for Alexis and these other campers while coming from a place of understanding.”
Contacting Leslie
We encourage our families to reach out to their assigned volunteer via email prior to the start of camp to introduce themselves and get familiar prior to the start of Sun Escape. Leslie’s email is below. We have also shared with Leslie your family’s primary email address on file should she wish to also introduce herself or get in contact with you for anything Sun Escape related (ex: checking in with you about your expected arrival time)

Your Cabin & Color Grouping Information
At Sun Escape, each family is assigned a color group to help guide the flow of the weekend. While many activities are enjoyed together, your color determines the schedule your family will follow for certain program areas. Your cabin will match your assigned color, making it easy to stay connected with your group throughout the weekend.
Your assigned color group is YELLOW
The Families in Your Yellow Group Will Be
The Lazarus Family - EPP (South Carolina)
The Bovet Family - SOLAR URTICARIA (New York)
The Delorme Family - EPP (California)
The Komon Family - EPP (New York)
The Ouimet Family - EPP (Canada)
The Hynes Family - EPP (New Jersey)
The Wilt-Helmick Family - EPP (West Virginia)
The Mitchell Family - EPP (California)
You will be staying in our California Cabin with the Komon Family
Making their first trip to Sun Escape this year is the Komon family from New York with their EPP child Molly who finally got properly diagnosed last year. “Molly took her diagnosis like a champ,” her mother said “and with an impressive and inspiringly positive outlook. What Molly has not had is the benefit of meeting other kids (literally, even one other child) who shares this same condition, and it would be life changing for her to simply be able to talk to a person her age who understands her experience, one that even her own parents cannot fully and completely know, since we cannot feel what she feels when she experiences sun exposure. I want that for her. I want Molly to feel not alone, and to feel the strength of others supporting her at times when she feels down or inhibited by her EPP, and to know that they are there for her to reach out to.”
As a reminder, each family will have their own private side of the cabin which includes a bedroom and bathroom. Both families will share a common area. Should your family wish to connect with the Komon Family prior to Sun Escape, you can reach out to the family via their email address below. They have your email as well. While encouraged, connecting is not required.
